The Meaning of Worship

Worship is a word that used to make me uncomfortable. I often saw pictures of the photo above and thought... hmmm that makes me feel... wow, look how they are just throwing their hands up like that.. don't they realize people are watching?? She might be praising God on Sunday, but what's she doing on Saturday... It's so expressive, shouldn't they contain that and just pray in a closet somewhere? Does God really want us to be so out there, it looks so extreme.

Worship music is beautiful and when I sing the lyrics, tears stream down my face and I feel God's love, His grace, His forgiveness every Sunday. Some Sundays are harder than others, maybe that week didn't go so well. Maybe I found out again that I wasn't pregnant that weekend, but when the music starts and the lights are dimmed, it's just me and God and I can't wait to worship and praise Him no matter the week I've had... Some people may judge churches for having guitars, drums, louder music during worship. How sad that they are so busy judging the sound of the music instead of the impact it is having on Christ's followers. They aren't able to feel the calming love and reassurance of our God in Heaven. The power of God overcomes me and it takes humility to open our hearts in fearless worship to Him.
Worship is about caring for all things God created and being in tune with creation. It's admitting to ourselves that a Big God is fully aware of not only the flowers in our yard, but the deepest desires of hearts. He's in the raindrops, the sunshine, the shadows, and so much more. Daily worship is seeing Him in the mundane.

My Top 5 Favorite Worship Songs
"If We're Honest"
Francesca Battistelli
Bring your brokenness, and I'll bring mine
'Cause love can heal what hurt divides
And mercy's waiting on the other side
If we're honest
If we're honest
Don't pretend to be something that you're not
Living life afraid of getting caught
There is freedom found when we lay
our secrets down at the cross, at the cross
"Like An Avalanche"
Hillsong United
King for a slave
Trading Your righteousness for shame
Despite all my pride and foolish ways
Caught in Your infinite embrace
And I find myself here on my knees again
Caught up in grace like an avalanche
Nothing compares to this love love love
Burning in my heart

"No Longer Slaves"
Bethel Music

I'm no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God

I am surrounded
By the arms of the father
I am surrounded
By songs of deliverance

We've been liberated
From our bondage
We're the sons and the daughters
Let us sing our freedom

You split the sea
So I could walk right through it
My fears were drowned in perfect love
You rescued me
And I could stand and sing
I am a child of God...

"Here's My Heart Lord"
David Crowder
You are strong, You are sure
You are life, You endure
You are good, always true
You are light breaking through

Here's my heart, Lord [x3]
Speak what is true

Here's my life, Lord [x3]
Speak what is true [x3]

"The Great I Am"
Craig and Dean Phillips
Hallelujah, holy, holy
God Almighty, the great I AM
Who is worthy, none beside Thee
God Almighty, the great I AM
I want to be near, near to Your heart
Loving the world and hating the dark
I want to see dry bones living again
Singing as one
