Mamas Tell All: How to Get Around a Picky Eater

I'm linking up today with Everyday Thoughts, So Called Homemaker and That Southern Mama for today's Mamas Tell All! So if you are up for my advice read on!
First I have to ask you...

are you a picky eater??

and second...

how do you react when seeing/offered new foods??

I ask because when our children our little, they look to us as the example. If we cringe every time we see a stalk of broccoli ,but then tell our kids "eat your vegetables!!" what is that showing them?
Or when we go through the bakery isle and salivate over those iced sugar cookies and tell them "only one!" when we eat half the box.. what is that showing them?

I'm not judging, I'm just as guilty of loving sweets. I don't say this to make you mamas feel bad.

There's something I can't stand and it's occurred in my own family. It's when a mom says, "Oh no no, she won't eat that, give them something else!"

Hmmm, ok?!?! How do you know if you've never let her try?

My mom had a great system with me and trying new foods. Let me just go ahead and answer your question right here.

I AM NOT A PICKY EATER, I will seriously try anything once and have been this way since I was a little girl. I never turn my nose up at stuff, and have even swallowed down food at a friend's home just to be polite...apart of that might be because we are Southern.... anyways,

My mom would tell me to try it and if I didn't like it I could spit it out into my napkin. It worked every time. I asked her about this before posting and she said most of the time I ate whatever she gave me. She also mentioned giving me age appropriate foods. Dare I say that breastfeeding has also been shown to help with picky eaters? Because yes, yes it does.

What are your tips on overcoming a picky eater?
Do you hide the veggies in the food?
Bribes?
No dessert?

I'd love to hear from you!
