What We Ate

We made plans to go see my grandmother at the beach.
Then we made plans to go see my aunt in the Smoky Mountains.
But in the end, we decided to stay home and celebrate Thanksgiving just the four of us.
Oh, and the three dogs.
My mom and I whipped up a pretty awesome meal with only 24 hours notice of the plan to just stay in town. We bought a beautiful ham and smokin' hot turkey from Old Clinton BBQ. The whole house smelled like smoky goodness while they were in the oven.

I made cauliflower mashed potatoes, roasted carrots, and brussels sprouts while mom worked on the turkey gravy, the best dressing ever made, and rolls. She also made a fruit salad which will go down in family history as the worst tasting salad we've ever had. We all agreed about this at the table. It was her turn to make something gross (every year she cooks an outstanding meal)... I was the one who made the worse side ever two years ago. I tried to make cauliflower mashed potatoes during which the lid to my garlic came OFF and ruined them... should've never served them as my family members cringed as they ate and kept saying "oh, these are a little garlicy". Never, ever serve something that you already know tastes awful! I did make some delicious pumpkin pie cupcakes though!
We had a nice dinner the day before Thanksgiving, since we were already all home and had to pick up the meats early. We watched movies, took naps, read books, and walked the dogs. It was what we all needed to be together and RELAX!
Is that a chocolate pumpkin pie you ask? Yes it is! We had extra pie filling so I added it to a chocolate crust because I love pumpkin and chocolate together. Served up with homemade chocolate syrup and whipped cream! The other pie was this yummy pumpkin pecan pie from Pillsbury. I made pecan pralines but forgot to take a picture!
This little puppy had lots of leftovers!
We have much to be grateful for this year!
